The Northern Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society’s Annual Meeting was held last Friday 5th May at the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. Fourth year medical student, Iyabo Adekunle-Olarinde, who recently completed her intercalated BSc project with Soapbox, submitted an abstract for the meeting and was accepted to present on her project.
Iyabo discussed her Water@Birth study which explored the requirements of water for hand hygiene during labour and delivery in low-income countries. Her research was conducted in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and at Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital in Ethiopia and generated some fascinating results around water use for hand hygiene in resource poor settings where efficient use is absolutely key.
Despite tough competition, we are delighted to announce that Iyabo was awarded the runner up prize for Best Student Presentation!
It has been a pleasure to have Iyabo working alongside the Soapbox team during her project and we wish her all the best for her ongoing studies.
